Liberal Arts: Social and Behavioral Sciences

Are you interested in understanding why people make the decisions that they do? If you want to learn more about human behavior, then the liberal arts social and behavioral sciences might be perfect for you!

Allan Hancock College’s liberal arts: social and behavioral sciences program emphasizes the perspective, concepts, theories, and methodologies typically found in the disciplines that comprise study in the social and behavioral sciences. Students will learn about themselves and others as members of a larger society. Discussions will stimulate critical thinking about ways people have acted in response to their societies and allow students to evaluate how societies and social subgroups operate.

The Associate degree in liberal arts is designed for students who wish to have a broad knowledge of social sciences. Students may find courses that they are interested in studying further and transfer to a four-year university to pursue a degree in psychology, history, sociology, global studies, child development, and many more.

This program will help you to:

• understand human behavior in relation to human social, political, and economic institutions
• develop individual responsibility, personal integrity, and respect for diverse people and culture
• study the past in order to understand and analyze present and future issues, problems, and projects
• understand the ways in which people act in response to society
